Triangle Aggregation for LES
Patrick Belli

Chair Building Charrette
For this exercise Reem and I constructed triangle based prisms which were aggregated into various seating formations. The triangles proved to be sturdy, as they stood up to my weight. I had began to experiment with various methods of aggregation and heights.

This was my inspiration for the drawings below

Visualization of Triangle Inspired Urban Seating
I had used the concepts of peripheries and creation of "personal" or "semi-private" space to the form of seating depicted below. I had attempted to create a form which would allow users to sit on the peripheries of the seating structure for more informal relaxation. The more enclosed spaces were meant for conversational, leisure, or child users. This form was created from a series of triangles which ultimately dictated its form.

Schematic Design Proposal: Allen Street Mall
Continuing on the concepts I had developed in the prior exercises, I have developed a proposal for the deployment of 5 different seating structures which calumniate to create a new sort of recreational environment.

This is a visualization of the open green space within our site area. It is meant to be a preliminary diagram. I plan  survey the area for NYCHA owned land, private owned land, public owned land, and public parks. Ultimately, the goal of this diagram is to depict the large amount of unused open and green space within our site. Once further categorized, the visualization will provide basis and reasoning behind deployment of periphery seating structures.

This is a diagram of aggregation of the triangles into 5 separate structures. I have used the same equilateral triangle to create 4 heights. The singular triangular based prisms were aggregated into a larger module. This larger triangular module was also equilateral, and was used to create each of the above modules. Lastly, in units 4 and 5 there is a netting structure intended for play or relaxation.

Deployment Strategy
I have decided to deploy the system on four separate blocks of Allen Street between Canal and Madison Streets. This particular area was chosen as it had various sized and shaped blocks in addition to its proximity to an elementary school and NYCHA development. Possibly the most radical part of this proposal is to realign Allen Street into one street. This creates a much wider area for a pedestrian promenade which is facilitated by my modules. The benefits of this realignment include; increased pedestrian access as the mall would not be isolated in the middle of a busy street as it currently is, there would be decreased traffic congestion as the amount of intersections would be lowered, and businesses along the eastern edge of Allen Street would see dramatically increased pedestrian traffic. Further more, there is still room for four lanes of traffic (Allen Street's current number of lanes) which has come at the expense of extensive street parking.
